Heyo, here’s a snippet. Let me know what you think. Formatting got weird when I copied it over so just ignore.

“The time will come when our lies are unearthed, and they will begin the hunt once more. You must protect her at all costs and train her until she is ready to reclaim what was stolen.” The veiled woman murmured, clutching the sickly, swaddled infant in her arms, unable to let go just yet.

“I know we ask much and you are owed a tremendous debt for the sacrifices your people accept on our behalf. My regret is that I cannot promise it is without risk,” said the heavily cloaked man, a calloused hand brushing a lock of dark hair out of the child’s sleeping and sweat drenched face.

The child, while quiet, was fading.

Death marched, searching for the girl to claim as its own.

“I must go, now, if our healers are to have a chance to save her.” The Elder urged, coming around to peer at the baby, whose breathing had quickened.

The Elder could sense the baby’s time was near and she could delay no longer.

The veiled woman and cloaked man each pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead before the woman placed the child in the Elder’s arms.

“What would you have me tell her, when the time comes?”

There was a tinge of regret and sadness in the room after the Elder’s question, but it was, perhaps, the most important question of all.

“Everything,” the veiled woman and cloaked man whispered in unison.

With that, the Elder pressed her fingers to the child’s forehead and whispered, “pozastaviť.”

Suspend.

A calming shade of blue spread from her fingers and the warmth of magic spread over the child’s small form. The child appeared to pause, suspended in a magical coma where her chest did not rise and her heart did not beat.

Rare magic.

Dangerous, if in the wrong hands.

The veiled woman and the cloaked man took their leave, sweeping from the room with a muffled sob chasing the ends of the woman’s veil while the Elder tucked the girl into her cloak.

“Come child, I will protect you.”
