“And before them all, sword raised to the sky as that horn blew one last time, the ruby in the blade’s pommel smoldering like a small sun … Before them all, riding on the Lord of the North, was Aelin.”
Wow I can’t believe Gavriel laid still with his eyes closed pretending to be dead until just after the last page of Kingdom of Ash and then he sat up and said “Just kidding, I’m alive, got you.” What a legend.
And when Aelin lifted her head to survey the cheering crowd, when she smiled, Queen of Terrasen and the Faerie Queen of the West, she burned bright as a star.
I’m pretty much indifferent. I don’t entirely like it, but I also don’t care enough to get upset. You know?
I’m the kind of person who would prefer to keep separate stories separate. If SJM had, say, confirmed that ACOTAR and TOG were in the same world, I would have been pretty upset. It comes across as unnecessary fanservice in my opinion, and takes away from the two as separate stories. But this cameo was just vague enough that it’s more a nod to other work than an actual confirmation of anything, and it also only shows them in the same multiverse rather than the same world.
So am I mad at it? Not really. Do I think I would have enjoyed the story/particular scene just as much without it? Absolutely. But c’est la vie ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Crescent City is set in a different (more modern) world, but since she already set up world-walking with the acotar cameo it’s completely plausible that he could have some sort of connection to it!
I’m interested to see if she’ll connect Crescent City in a similar way to how she connected the other series.
After Orynth was rebuilt, the western gate received a special renovation. The new heavy double iron doors were carved with a figure on each sheet.
One had a mountain lion standing on his back legs; and the other had the profile of a handsome, kind-faced Fae male, his hands up as if holding the door. Gold lined him and the lion like an aura.
