“as he rested his head against the back of his chair”

I just noticed the quote above from this part where Rhys leans his head back against his chair. It’s so casual, so nonchalant. But he doesn’t “lean back” with his body against the chair. He leans his head back. Which is another way of saying exposing your throat, basically – your head goes back and your neck is just out there.

I think Rhysand is so angry in this moment that he – a warrior who is hundreds of years old and would never ignorantly expose one of his body’s greatest weaknesses like this in a room of his enemies/frenemies/not quite allies – that he is knowingly taunting Tamlin and daring him to try it so he can have the excuse for the fight he wants to have.

We see similar shows of exposing your throat intentionally to show vulnerability since it’s such a physically weak place in the body in the Throne of Glass series (Queen of Shadows, I think) with Aelin and Rowan.

I think that Rhysand exposing his throat here is intentional – it’s his way of taunting Tamlin with a moment of vulnerability to bait Tamlin into physically attacking him, because Rhys is angry enough to want an excuse to actually kill Tamlin in this moment.
